TDM #5

TEST DRIVE & SIMULATION #5

CONTENT WARNINGS: forced scenarios, partial nudity, alcohol use

▶ 001. ARRIVAL / CAFETERIA.

It happens in the blink of an eye -- a dash of time. You're taken from where you were. What you were doing.. it isn't important anymore, and slowly, you give up to desire your normal life. When you awake, figures are looking down on you from a surgical table.

"Yeah, this one will do; let's take them to the rest," That's all you see before losing consciousness again, only to wake up in a pod with many others.

"Your questions will be answered soon enough as I'm sure you will have many," a female, robotic voice says.

Just then, your pod opens in a dim corridor with many others. Your new life is about to begin... whether you like it or not.

The pods drain their stasis fluid which wakens each Outsider. When Outsiders emerge from their pod in only their undergarments which have been supplied to them and head to a locker room in the medical bay, to find a towel to dry off with, a set of gray loungewear to wear as LILITH makes the final decision in organizing the Outsider to their rightful teams. If a character has any accessibility needs, they will be found here. It's about then they will feel a sharp pain at the back of their eyes, almost like there’s a foreign body lodged on the inside of their head. This pain will subside quickly as their body adapts to the changes, but there will always be a sensation of something being not quite right. That their bodies have been changed forever. They would be correct in thinking that. In the pod, all Outsiders have been surgically fitted with ocular and brain implants that will enable them to communicate with LILITH and the rest of the crew, and feed them the information they require. Almost like a computer screen has been loaded into their brains, they will see a loading screen as the implant completes its download. A questionnaire will then pop up, waiting for their answer. A voice, robotic and feminine, will also read along in their brain for them.

█ █ █ LOADING COMPLETE … BEGIN ORIENTATION …

Name:
Username:
Civilian Identity:
Age:
Species:
Origin:

What is your darkest fear?

The system will give Outsiders one chance to provide a truthful answer and choose their username and civilian identity. Should they refuse to cooperate, the implant will download the answer directly from their brain (and give them a username or civilian name against their will). This questionnaire will then be posted on the network for all to view and reply to. Almost like an ice-breaker, if you will. LILITH wants all their newest recruits to learn about each other!

Outsiders will receive a quick brief about their situation: They will be told that the year is 2278, and they have been taken to Neo Tokyo, one of the last bastions of mankind in a world terrorized by various Kaiju and monsters. Only a third of the population remains, and LILITH has gathered talented people from other dimensions here as a last ditch effort to save humanity. Outsiders are free to continue asking LILITH questions through their implant, but there’s no guarantee they will provide them with a straight answer …

Outsiders will also notice an implant in their dominant wrist. This implant has a barcode in it that will enable them to purchase goods from the local stores in Neo Tokyo. They will receive a starting balance of 10,000 KRYPTOS (about USD 66), which is barely enough for a few good meals, groceries and supplies. They can view their current balance through a hologram window projected by their ocular implant.

While there would normally be a meal available for them in the cafeteria, this doesn’t seem to be the case this time. Robots working within the cafeteria will instead be handing out food ration bars to each Outsider. They are dense with calories and nutrition, but taste a bit like sawdust.

That familiar, robotic voice is heard again:

"Greetings, my name is SYNTHIA and I will be taking care of you today while the rest of the crew is busy handling a recent issue. Worry not, my children. You are in safe hands."

▶ 002. THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME.

Existing Outsiders will receive a call to report to the data portal within Las Vegas. They’ve done their parts helping to take down the worm kaiju and assisting with the clean up of the city. LILITH’s army of cleaner drones can take the rest from here. It’s been a physically and emotionally draining mission for everyone, and it’s time to head home. The beaming back to Neo Tokyo will go rather smoothly for the most part (and yes, holding someone’s hand through it still helps), but upon arrival, Outsiders might be struck with a splitting headache, nausea and vertigo. They might need an hour or so to recuperate, which they can do in their rooms or the sick bay.

New and fresh Outsiders will be given the task to take care of their seniors as they recuperate. Make sure they have water and food (even if it’s terrible ration bars). Give them a massage, or cheer them up because they’ve had such a difficult mission! It’s a great way to build bonds and get to know your teammates. Ask them what happened in Vegas! They’ll be more than happy to tell you.

▶ 003. TOO HOT TO HANDLE.

One thing Outsiders will notice immediately upon stepping foot in the Neo Tokyo base is that it is hot. Did someone forget to turn on the air conditioning? The rest of Neo Tokyo doesn’t seem to be any better. With summer approaching, the city has been hit with a heatwave, and it doesn’t help that the heat is interfering with the city’s power generators. This means that not only is it hot, but notices are popping up within everyone’s implants to be mindful of how much electricity they are using. Blackouts appear to be happening all over the base and the city. Electricity is being rationed, and when residents exceed it, it’s cut off.

This is having a devastating impact on the people of Neo Tokyo. The fact that it’s hot and there isn’t much air conditioning is one thing. Hospitals are also struggling from an influx of patients being admitted due to heat stroke, dehydration and severe sunburns. Fires are breaking out more often in the heat and this is only making things worse.

On top of it all, restaurants and stores have been greatly impacted by the electricity rations. Refrigerators and freezers are not working, so food storage is a problem and fresh ingredients are going bad. Restaurants are desperate to sell off what remains of their stock before it spoils. LILITH has been giving out food ration bars and non-perishable meals (such as canned food) and it’s been keeping the people from starving, but their subpar taste doesn’t seem to help the morale one bit.

While LILITH knows that older Outsiders have just had a difficult mission, there’s no choice but to activate them once again. A mission brief will pop up in everyone’s implants:
█ █ █ MISSION OBJECTIVE:

✖Contain heat-wave related fires and conduct rescue operations
✖Assist hospitals to care for the influx of patients while they may not have the power to use their medical equipment
✖Distribute water and food rations to citizens in need
✖Assist restaurants and supermarkets to salvage their food supplies as far as possible

While things aren’t looking too great, the Neo Tokyo Meteorological Agency is promising that temperatures will go down when the rainy season comes along. There hasn’t been much rain recently, however …

▶ 004. WELCOME TO OKINAWA.

After a few days of continued efforts to support the people of Neo Tokyo, things seem to have calmed down. LILITH has fired up some backup generators that are able to power the hospital and essential services, most of the fires have been contained, and the hospital has been able to get its patient load under control. LILITH has stepped in to further support the city, with their drones working hard to hand out supplies and provide medical aid. Restaurants continue to struggle, but nobody is starving, and LILITH is working hard to get the power back in operation.

On July 5th, there is a message from Captain Yamakawa:

“My Angels of LILITH. You may be at ease now. Our dedicated staff will take over from here. It’s been a difficult month for us all. To show appreciation for your efforts, we have organized a company trip to allow you the appropriate rest and relaxation. We do ask that you gather some supplies since food is short in Neo Tokyo, but that should be an easy task for our talented workforce. Please report to the data portals for departure at once."

Departure is set at 1100hrs, and Outsiders will be provided a water bottle and some sunscreen. Once they step through the data portal, they will be met with soft sand, the hot sun, and clear, beautiful waves - Welcome to Okinawa! Specifically, Outsiders will find themselves in Emerald Beach. While the water is pristine, the first thing Outsiders might notice is that there are unnaturally large coconut crabs all over the shoreline; with the majority of them the size of a large dog, and the largest of them about the size of a car.

Nearby to the beach, there are many abandoned fruit farms (such as watermelon, dragon fruits, mango and pineapples) that may have fresh produce for Outsiders to harvest. With how the rift changes the environment, some of these fruits have grown humongous in size. On top of that, the water appears to be cleaner than that found in Tokyo Bay. There are fish still swimming in it, and while some of these fish appear to have mutated, they do not appear inedible.

This is probably what Captain Yamakawa means by ‘supplies’.
█ █ █ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: Coconut Crab
SIZE: 24 inches (size of a large dog) to about 5 meters (size of a car)
CLASS: Mild threat
LOCATION: Shoreline, ocean, forests
ABILITIES: Razor-sharp pincers with formidable gripping force - once it grips on to something, it is difficult to break free. Very hard shell that would take effort to crack.
WEAKNESS: Poor eyesight and hearing. Helpless if you tie them up. Becomes stunned with a knock to the head.
EXTRA NOTES: Apparently very delicious.

█ █ █ MISSION OBJECTIVE:
✖ Hunt and capture coconut crabs. Alive is preferable for the best quality meat.
✖ Harvest fresh fruit

▶ 005. THIS IS A VACATION WE PROMISE.

“Are they seriously making you guys work on your vacation?! This is why we can’t leave everything up to that stiff-ass commander. This should be our beach episode! Don’t worry, your daddy Seok Dang’s got you. Take a crab, take whatever you want, have a damn barbeque! Lie on the beach until your tan comes in. Get nude! Let’s get this party started!”
(LILITH would highly discourage anyone from actually taking off their clothes.)

Following Seok Dang’s message, outsiders will notice a pop-up appearing in their eyes, prompting them to accept an outfit upgrade. If accepted, they will find themselves in beach-appropriate attire (player’s choice) using LILITH’s Style Upgrade technology.

Despite Seok Dang’s bid for a party, Outsiders will have to make their own fun in this abandoned beach. They are free to do as they like, whether it’s having a swim, lying in the sand, playing a game of volleyball with an old ball that happens to be lying around, or cracking open a watermelon to share. He does try to encourage things along by sending a few gifts. Through the data portal, several drones will emerge and drop off portable grills, boomboxes, and alcohol from his private stash. For some reason he’s also unleashed a robot that is insistent on challenging Outsiders to a watermelon slicing competition. It looks like he’s serious about this beach episode …

Outsiders may travel between Okinawa and Neo Tokyo throughout the few days using the data portals. There are no resorts in operation in Okinawa, but should they choose to stay near the beach, they may set up a camp or sleep in an abandoned house or hotel.

▶ 006. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to our fifth TDM! All TDM threads are game canon; characters who don't app will be glitched out of this world. As TDM will act as the event, existing characters are heavily encouraged to participate. We encourage this format for top levels: CHARACTER | CANON | CURRENT / NEW CHARACTER. '

There are currently 13 available player slots. New players are welcome to use this TDM to get samples for when APPLICATIONS open.

None of the prompts suit your fancy? Feel free to check out our main base and locations page and make up your own prompts! (Note that Las Vegas is currently being rebuilt and will be made available to visit sometime next month.)

Use the code provided in the ARRIVAL prompt if you'd like to participate in the ice breaker and place it in your top level along with your other prompts. Anything such as civilian name or username can be marked as UNDECIDED if you're unsure of what you'd like your character to have for now. Though it says 'Orientation', existing characters can still participate in the ice-breaker.

For oldbies: for a job well done after the last kaiju mission, 250,000,000 KRYPTOS (~1700 USD) will be deposited into everyone's account. And to our kaiju MVPs: we haven't forgotten you! Those characters will get their due recognition next event. :)

Please note that all tags in this log will count for 2 reward points each and will count towards July AC.

TDM #5 BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. ARRIVAL PROMPT: Newcomers arrive with ocular and brain implants and told a breakdown of the premise with an icebreaker orientation to fill out. Their first cafeteria meal is food ration bars. Newcomers are placed in gray loungewear while they are being sorted into teams.

2. THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME: Senior Outsiders return from Las Vegas via the data portal and will experience side effects such as dizziness, nausea and headaches. Newer Outsiders are tasked with taking care of their senpai.

3. TOO HOT TO HANDLE: There is a heatwave and that's messed up the power grid, leading to a city-wide electricity ration. Hospitals are struggling, fires are breaking out and black outs are happening all over the city. Restaurants are struggling to store their food so there there is a shortage of fresh food. Outsiders are tasked with assisting the hospitals, containing any fires, distributing rations to citizens and assisting restaurants to salvage their supplies.

4. WELCOME TO OKINAWA: With the chaos in the city now under control, LILITH has sent all Outsiders on a vacation to a beach in Okinawa. The caveat is that they will need to gather food supplies. These supplies come in the form of a coconut crab kaiju, fresh fruit and fish.

5. THIS IS A VACATION WE PROMISE: Seok Dang is eager to get this beach party starter. He's updated the implants, allowing all Outsiders to swap into beach-appropriate attire using LILITH's Style Upgrade technology. He's airdropped portable grills, music players and alcohol for Outsiders to enjoy. There is also a robot challenging people to watermelon slicing competitions. Outsiders can do whatever they want to relax at the beach.

3, Rescue

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2024-07-03 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ Two things he's learned quickly. Run towards the fire, that's where people need help, and the sound of shattering is generally bad and means... well, people need help. Looking up he spots the spikey haired youngster and the child he's protecting. That's about all he needs, protective instincts kick in instantly. He widens his stance, braces and holds up his arms in preparation as he bellows back up. ]

READY!
blastedass: by cytes @ dw (gift ~ Don't Take) (💥 You wanna start something?)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-07-03 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Getting people out of the building is far more important than saving the building. But if possible, he can do both of them, so long as he operates quickly. With the firefighters already there, one or two other Outsiders helping to quell the flames, Bakugo focuses on the rescue first; he doesn't recognize the guy bellowing out at him, but he's obviously not a native. Another Outsider then. Bastard better have good reflexes and not just a decent sumo stance.]

Get ready to fly, kid.

[Before practically peeling the now-terrified youngster off his shoulders and chest, and pitching the kid off the roof. Ignore the screaming. What a hero. But his aim's as true as his intensity, even making sure the kid's no flipping end over end in midair.]

Not a scratch!
30storieshigh: (camo; why are things bigger than me wtf)

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2024-07-03 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Ignoring screaming is one of his better honed skills luckily, so he's entirly unbothered! Being human a little less so though. Sure enough his accuracy is entirely on point like Bakugo's, he catches the child effortlessly. However balancing without his tail is still new, one of his feet actually skids slightly from the impact. That's just unacceptable for the king!

Putting that aside he focuses on the hatchling he just caught. The youngster is shaken, possibly a little stirred, but otherwise unharmed. ]

Hatchling's fine!

[ He sets the child down to their feet, pats their head in what he thinks is reassurance, and let's the approaching emergency humans take take over there. He turns his attention back up to the spikey loud ones, reassuring his catcher's stance. ]

You next. Quick!
blastedass: by blastedass @ dreamwidth (💥 PISSED!)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-07-03 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[You don't say... Bakugo narrows his eyes when the man does indeed catch the kid, even if he seems to skid and wobble a bit. Hmph. Good enough. There's no tackle onto the ground with a face being busted open. But he can't focus on that for long, head whipping around when something crashes and cracks inside the building. He jerks to the side as a gout of flame belches from the window, snarling from the race of heat across his side. It takes a few seconds for the fires to subside there. Going back in that way's a bust...

HATCHLING?! Did that guy just say "hatchling" like it's normal?! Bakugo is already making his way to another second-floor window, intending to go back inside to make sure there's no one else left.]

Urusei! I don't need it! You wanna help, grab a hose!

[With that, he smashes in the glass and swings back inside the building. It'll be about five minutes before he reappears again.]
30storieshigh: (you're being judged by a dinosaur)

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2024-07-03 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Blink. Blink. Shrug. Humans and fire don't mix to his understanding but he can respect the dedication. It's kind of exactly what he was going to do, but the hose? Well, if the spikry one needs it he won't argue

So off he goes, casually taking up one of the thick hoses and marching straight into the burning building, taking up the slack by himself, ignoring the calls to come back, and heading to the second floor. It's not easy going, there's a stairwell that needs clearing of burning debris

Which he does by uh...opening his mouth and blasting them apart with a stream of pink energy. That's fine. That's normal. No civilians are around it's FINE. It lets him head upstairs and begin searching for the spikey furred one. ]

I brought the hose you wanted. Where are you?

[ He sounds entirely unconcerned as he calls out, he doesn't even mind that he's coughing a little. Some smoke never killed anyone. Well, not him at least. ]
blastedass: by bokunoicons @ tumblr (💥 Surprise hero sucker punch.)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-07-04 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Bakugo shields his face with one arm, snarling against the heat as he stalks through the flames. He doesn't dare secrete any of his sweat at the moment, not wanting the heat to detonate it before he's ready, or evaporate it when he needs it.

One room after the next, kicking doors open and yelling for anyone who might be inside the house. He doesn't find anyone in the first three rooms, but upon dashing into the bathroom, finds a woman hiding in the tub with a wet blanket over her body. That's smarter than some people, but still fucking stupid! Did she think she was gonna outlast the fire?! ... Until Bakugo realizes she's unconscious. Shit. He quickly gathers her up and throws the woman over his shoulder, then heads back out.

Can't ask if anyone else is her-]

WHAT THE FUCK?! [Why is this bastard here?! He's got the hose in his hand, but what the fuck?!] YOU IDIOT!! GET BACK OUTSIDE AND TURN THAT THING ON!!

[It's amazing this guy's standing in the burning house without any issue, but that's not going to help when they turn the water on!]
30storieshigh: (camo; I didn't understand that reference)

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2024-07-04 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ What's even more not helping is the guy proceeds to just kind of stand there for a moment. He looks at Bakuga, looks at the hose, looks at the fire, back to Bakuga ]

You requested it be brought.

[ He is still very calm about the whole situation. The hose seems fine too, it was at least charged before he grabbed it. Did he know that? Not exactly the term, but he felt the water flowing through it. He's not totally hopeless.]

The way out is clear. Follow the line. I'll search for others, stop the fire.

[ The way he talks he clearly thinks this isn't going to be nearly as hard as, you know, fighting a fire actually is. What's worse the guy doesn't even flinch when a piece of ceiling picks that exact moment to fall next to him, he just glances at it and grunts. ]

Should hurry. The civilians aren't sturdy, the falling rock could hurt the one you have.
blastedass: by blastedass @ dreamwidth (💥 GOD DAMMIT DEKU!)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-07-08 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
[ooc: sorry for taking so long! holiday weekend and family coming over really axed me.]

ARE YOU A FUCKING MORON?! [Bakugo watches him turn his head from him to the hose and back again like he's got no clue how it works-- CAUSE HE DOESN'T KNOW APPARENTLY?! Lunging forward, he blatantly shoulders the other man backwards, not a full tackle, but definitely enough to start driving him out of the house!]

SCRAM!! You're supposed to use that thing outside!!

[While some might think using a hose in the middle of the fire would be a good idea, the risk to the firefighter is far too high to try and fight said fire while standing in it! Despite the sheer incredulous reality of this guy bringing the fire hose inside, it does make a nice tether trail to lead back outside. Which Bakugo's trying to push him along.]

Don't tell me what to do! [The ceiling chunk drops beside him and he jerks his body away from it, turning so the woman is blocked from the billowing embers by his own figure. It also makes him reconsider what this guy's offering.] Shit.

Fine! Start on the top floor. Everything on the west side is clear. No one else is there. Check the east rooms. Bring out anyone you find. [Bakugo's going to head for the door (yanking the hose out of the other Outsider's hands so he's not dragging it through the house) to drop the woman off. He'll return afterwards to meet up with the guy for a final sweep. The fact that falling debris didn't make him flinch at least convinced Bakugo to let the Outsider search.]
30storieshigh: (camo; 100% normal human greeting)

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2024-07-08 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
[ooc: no worries! Totally get it, you're fine. It was well worth the wait!]

[ Bakugo's quick heroic decision to bug out might have just averted a, uh, cultural incident. His tone has gone from requesting to something a bit too much like ordering for Godzilla's liking and coupled with the physical pushing, well, it sure does seem like a challenge! A challenge the disguised lizard is dangerously close to forgoing the protection of the helpless to answer.

Thankfully the red cloud (or pink) passes before it gets much further. Being pointed in the direction of where help is needed gets his mind off friendlily slugging Bakugo to establish pecking order and back on task. He doesn't offer any resistance to the hose being taken from him, he just grunts and heads right up to the top floor. The smoke is thick so he stops relying on his normal sight and smell, tracking survivors instead by means that lets him skip entirely empty rooms.

There's a man hiding under a desk in an office, near crushed under fallen, burning ceiling. Those have to be moved aside carefully so as to not disrupt the structure any further, once a path is clear he's able to pull the man out and sling him over his shoulders. The next room, another hatchling, being guarded by a small, yappy metal fake of some sort of animal. He doesn't like that thing but the young one clings to it in their fear, so both end up scooped up in his arms.

Considering that a full load he heads back outside, bumping into Bakugo on the way out. He doesn't stop to chat, just nods in acknowledgment before rushing out the door. Once unburdened he's right back in, jogging up to the young human's side. ]

I am unsure if the top is clear. The smoke is starting to effect me.

[ Well. He is wheezing a little and he's starting to rub at his eyes to keep them clear, but he's still talking far too calmly in the middle of a burning building. ]

[ooc: thank you!]

[Leaving the other man inside seems to go against his instincts, but they don't have the luxury of that at the moment. Outsiders are naturally stronger and more able than the civilians of Neo Tokyo (assumedly) so if this guy's one of the other kidnapped group, he'll be able to do something in there without getting demolished by debris or burned up by fire. If he does, Bakugo's going to kick his fucking ass for putting himself in danger when he couldn't protect himself!

He quickly deposits the victim into the waiting medics' arms, making sure they have the situation under control and assure him the rescued individual isn't going to die of any complications. Doesn't give them long to say that though, since there are more people and every second counts in this situation. Bakugo breaks off from the gurney and heads back inside, not racing as he wants due to the smoke and flames. He braces against the heat and waves through the smoke, keeping his face ducked behind his jacket collar.

Only to bump into the new Outsider emerging from the billowing black and lurid orange glow. He twists to snarl at him, but lets it go before tromping up the stairs again. No comment on whether the top floor's clear or not. Bastard. Whatever. Bakugo shoulders open another door and yells inside it, before quickly sweeping the area. In the closet, under the bed, behind the door, nothing = back out into the hall.

Almost running into the newcomer. AGAIN!]

There's only two more rooms at the end of the hall. Look in the left one, I'll take the right. Then get out of here.

[That calmness is actually a help in the stressful situation, Bakugo's own gruff voice following suit. Once they have those two rooms clear, they can leave, satisfied no one else is inside.]
30storieshigh: (camo; im still gonna bite it)

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2024-07-09 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ In a rare event Godzilla actually hesitates. Not out of concern, fear, or self preservation mind you, oh no. He's hesitating to look at his hands, mouthing "Left, right." to himself, flexing his fingers, his brow screwed up in concentration. The stronger of the two is the left, he thinks.

Thankfully for the sake of efficiency and Bakugo's patience he's right on the money. The only other pause he has is to take the closed door of that room fully off its hinges with a grunt of effort, then turn it side ways to offer more support to the doorway. It might not do anything but he's willing to try anything to keep the path from collapsing behind him. He does a thorough sweep two times over, not exiting the room until he's fully satisfied no other helpless humans cower within.

Does he get clobbered in the head by a falling ceiling tile and let out a snarl of displeasure on his way out? Of course he does, that's just how the building cookie crumbles. It's not one of the worst hits he's taken to that thick skull though so he powers through.

The smoke though, that's starting to be a problem. He's taken a page out of others' books by the time he and Bakugo meet back up, crouching low and keeping his nose covered by his shirt. It's not much but it helps. ]

No life in that room. Are you ready?

[ Yes Bakugo told him to leave and yes instead he's waiting for him. Godzilla isn't a leave the other person behind kind of guy. Far as he's concerned they go out walking together or with one of them dragging the other. ]

[He's trying to figure out right and left? Bakugo stares at the Outsider for a few seconds, wondering just how big a damn meathead this guy actually is. Point and punch? Is that how LILITH intends to use this one?! Ugh, he's not teaching the man these kinds of basics. Instead, he just points to the direction he wants him to go.]

THAT WAY!!

[At least he doesn't miss the new guy propping the doorframe with the door. Not a bad idea, though ripping it off and shoving it up in there takes a lot less work for the Outsider. How strong is this bastard... Bakugo focuses on his own room, rushing in and looking through the area. Shouting for anyone to answer as he checks under the bed, behind the door, in the closet, behind the curtains, in the bed, everywhere. But to no avail (in a good way). This room's empty.

Bakugo's leaving the room at the same time as the other guy, snorting in annoyance and amusement when the building drops a smoking piece of slag on his head. Somehow that's fitting in a stupid way. But knowing the guy's already got a problem with the smoke, Bakugo has no intention of keeping him here long. Even if he's already adapted to an improve facemask with his shirt and keeping low. It's better than nothing.]

Get outside. The building's clear. [Bakugo's already pushing against the Outsider's back to drive him forward. A hero is the first one in and last one out after all.] Don't bother with the stairs. Out the window.
30storieshigh: (camo; why are things bigger than me wtf)

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2024-07-10 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ That's the first thing the spiked-fur has said that makes sense, the building is too far gone to risk taking the long way out. Windows, the sharp shattering walls, he's learned about those, even gone through a couple. This'll be the first time it was by choice rather than grappling with another Titan but how bad can it be? ]

Understood.

[ So Godzilla charges forward, taking the lead as is proper in his mind. He hasn't really learned how to open them though, we're lucky he's figured out doors, so he... Well. He lifts his foot and kicks it like you would a door, aimming for the wood rather than the glass. He's got that figured out at least, the pane doesn't so much pop out as go sailing out overto the next building over.

Whoops. He needs to be more careful with his strength. Someone mightt've gotten hurt. He takes a moment to poke his head out, make sure no one is below, and then out the window he goes. Controlling the fall without his tail is a pain, he ends up having to land with a knee and a a hand on the ground to keep from falling over. He's straight up growling as he straightens, that hurt more than he thought it would, but at least he has the good sense to step out of the way so Bakugo's landing is clear.

The real question, was this building sensibly equipped with a fire escape? Maybe! But he lizard brained his way through without notice. ]

[Bakugo isn't about to fire an explosion around the guy to open the window. He seems to be willing to charge right through the glass (or wall) instead and the blonde hangs back to watch. See what kind of durability the Outsider has. Plus he's not going to leave him behind. Make sure he gets out, then follow, that's the plan here. Bakugo's not going to fall.

One solid kick sends the frame and glass sailing clean out the hollow. Thanks for smashing the panel into the building over that had nothing to do with this disaster... But it leaves a hole behind in this house with no glass to drag through. Bakugo moves behind the Outsider, ready to brace him or catch him if something happens. When the man opts to jump instead, he doesn't have the time to call him out on it. Instead, Bakugo takes one look behind him, then jumps out the window himself.

He tucks and flips once before an explosion out one hand pops him back in the air for a brief pitch of height, and allows the hero to drop to the ground from an easy distance. Not a problem at all. Bakugo turns towards the newcomer, watching him straighten up. That landing looks like it took a toll on his knee. If the building had a fire escape, it's certainly not on the front of it.

There's plenty of water being sprayed in by the other firefighters. The blaze is halfway under control as it is. Perhaps the building can be saved at this rate. Less than 50% repairs needed...]

Here. [Bakugo finds and tosses the Outsider a water bottle.] Use it to flush your eyes. It'll take the burn off.
30storieshigh: (camo; fully normal human acknowledgment)

[ Godzilla is just a tiny bit envious of Bakugo's aerial acrobatics. If the disguise technology hadn't robbed him of his tail he could've landed just as gracefully. It's not worth getting huffy over though, even with the limitations of a fleshy human form he's doing pretty well here.

The lack of a tail doesn't impact his reflexes so that's a small mercy. He catches the water bottle tossed his way without issue, nodding as he does so. Water is good for smoke-burn, especially the dark smoke human ships leave when they burn. It's one of many advantages to fighting in water.

Fine motor skills though, this is another problem. He's figured out glasses but unscrewing a bottle cap? Not so much. Which leads to the very caveman approach of just snapping the top of the plastic bottle off so he can use it to flush his eyes. He uses about half before wiping his face clear. ]

Thank you. [ He offers the rest to the Spiked-Furred comrade he's made. ] You did well. It was pleasant to work with one so skilled.

[Wait'll he finds out about the disguise. He's already got two companions who are forced into those kinds of things. Alas, something to learn about later. Bakugo's ever-proud of his Quirk and skill with it, though he's focused more on making sure the people are safe, this new Outsider included.

There's more to this guy than meets the eye. Considering he walked into the burning building with the hose like it was a simple jaunt to the way he helped out with a show of strength and resilience that rivaled trained firefighters, or even beyond, suggests superhuman traits. What was he in his own world?

... and has he never seen a water bottle before, or is he just that damn impatient? (Snapping the top off a plastic bottle isn't an easy thing to do either.) What the hell. Bakugo says nothing, only watches with a piqued expression as the man flushes his eyes. Glad he didn't have to explain what that meant.]

I have my own. [And raises it to show he does indeed have his own. Which he uncaps the normal way, gripping the cap and twisting it with a brief snap. Learn, dammit.] Che, you didn't die. Have you done this kinda stuff before?
30storieshigh: (camo; I didn't understand that reference)

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2024-07-13 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ To his caveman like credit Godzilla does observe the proper way to open a water bottle and file it away for later. While in the midst of just kind of... drinking the entire rest of his own water in one long gulp. Christ. At least he doesn't burp afterwards? Or litter! He actually makes a conscious effort to crush the bottle as small as he can and place it in a pocket for later disposal.

That line of questioning has him paused for thought, even biting the inside of his cheek since that's a thing he can do now. After some consideration he shrugs. ]

Similar, danger and flame are old friends. This, uh, "evacuating" I believe it is called? That is newer. My normal duties are to fight and defend, the rest is a concern of a different scale.

[ And he means scale in the most literal way. People are too small for him to do anymore than drive danger away from them, this kind of finer detail work is entirely beyond his original form. ]

[It's not surprising to see someone chug water that hard. Some people will put it all in their mouth and gulp it down in one neck-breaking swallow. Though this guy does it with a smoothness that makes Bakugo wonder if he just... opened his throat and poured it in. Hey, he knows not to litter. That's smart of him.

Tilting his head, the blonde indicates they should leave the area, not wanting to get in the way of the firemen and their efforts on salvaging the rest of the house. The Outsiders did well enough on the job. Take a break before going to the next one.]

Duties? What are you, some kind of soldier or law enforcement? [Bakugo would've suggested fireman, but considering the way this guy handled the hose... nope!]

Evacuating usually happens before rescuing. [There's a gray area between them, but generally it's a distinct effort. You can usually rely on people to evacuate themselves with instruction rather than bodily intervening to get them out.]

[ Now see that tilt of the head? That is clear communication! It allows him to devote more of his thoughts to answering questions while they walk away. ]

I was King. [ Spoken with all the casual sureness of stating water is wet. That's not a brag for him it's a point of solid fact. Granted he's noticed some people take to looking at him weird when he says that, so he does offer a comparison. ]

Enforcement, that sounds close. I kept the peace and maintained balance, mainly through battle. Rescuing was not my charge then, it was left to others. But here things are different, we are mostly equal, so I adapt. I rescue now, it is surprisingly gratifying.

[Bakugo only intends to take the break for a while; there are more fires to take care of. Already he's paying attention to the reports that come into his ocular, having worked out a channel with the police. As well he should; he works as a policeman for his non-Outsider vocation.]

King? [That's not a fucking occupation! It's only this guy's tone of voice that keeps Bakugo from taunting him about it and rather stokes his curiosity to what it actually means. He says it so matter of factly, but does he really mean he was "a king" or is that colloquial for the champion of something?]

Hmph, no wonder heroics sounded familiar to you. [Bakugo stops to rest under a tree, taking comfort in the shade.] Did you work on a team or by yourself?
30storieshigh: (camo; im still gonna bite it)

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2024-07-15 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ Godzilla is relatively unconcerned about finding more places to help. Follow the sounds of screaming and the smell of smoke and sure enough you'll be there. He doesn't totally agree with his new compatriot taking a break but he's not going to argue, humans can only handle so much at once.

Not that he himself needs some recovery after all that smoke. No, not at all. Parish the thought. ]

In recent times? Only myself. [ No that's only half the truth, as much as it pains him to admit it he's not so vain as to lie. Besides Mothra would be disappointed in him he's sure. ] Sometimes there are others, only two, and they are not always there. This is the first time in many seasons I have had so many allies close at hand.

[If he didn't take a quick break, Bakugo would've already flown off towards the next case. He's making sure the new Outsider is settled after the firefight and rescue. That's all he's doing. It's not that fucking hot outside. Maybe a second water bottle sounds like a great idea right now... He'll have to get another one later.]

Did you lose your comrades? [Bakugo's voice seems to dip a bit despite the usual gruff. Heroes worked together often, even those who seemed to handle everything on their own. But recently, due to the villains and the social upheaval, heroes have been vanishing in droves. Unable to handle the criticism and pressure. It's not a pleasant memory.]

They usually send us out together, sometimes split by our dorms.

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2024-07-18 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ That question hits the very unflappable Outsider a bit harder than anything else so far. It's a loaded one. Between his entire kind being wiped out, his ally that fell in his old home, Mothra's numerous demises over the ages, and the humans that have given their lives for him. There is a road built of lost companions stretching through his long life. ]

Many over the years. It is unavoidable to an extent, most things do die in the end. [ There's a gravity to his tone as he considers the tree Bakugo has taken shelter under. On a whim he approaches the other side of it, laying his hand on the bark. He can't feel it, like the rest of this earth it stays silent to him, but its very real presence is a comfort. Life finding a way, even in this lair of concrete and steel. ] But they died so other things could live on.

[ A shake of his head, a sigh, then he draws himself back up. Back straight, expression contemplative. The past is the past, ruminating on it is not helpful in this moment. ]

Tell me about this divide by "dorm". It was explained briefly when I awoke but I do not grasp the purpose. Does it not cause territory disputes between the whole?

[The silence he gets in return tells Bakugo he hit a nerve. A question answered without the other man having to say anything. Losing your comrades could mean anything, from one trusted ally to an entire group with a sole survivor. He's not surprised about the answer, expression growing more somber in place of his usual scowl.]

I know what that's like.

[Not as intensely, probably, as Bakugo's had mercifully few deaths in his life despite the field of work that he's in. But the first one he experienced continues to haunt him. Midnight was one of his teachers, someone he saw almost every day during his year at U.A. She died during the first war... killed by villains. She died to protect, and her last words were spent giving her students encouragement and advice to end a greater threat. The empty space in the classroom when they all-- when most of them --returned after the war, hit hard.

They died so others could live. It's often like that, isn't it.]

It's not a damn territory. They break us up into teams. Each team has their own dorm on the base. Everlight, Redemption, Revelation, and Brimstone. It lets them mobilize a group without having to focus on each individual, and without engaging all of us.
30storieshigh: (camo; certainly normal human doubt)

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2024-07-21 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ The explanation gets an eyebrow raise out of Godzilla. He is honest to a fault and his expressions reflect the skepticism he's feeling right now. Dividing into smaller groups instead of fighting with full force seems a poor decision to him, but he is very much a hammer that sees nails everywhere. Overwhelming power is his solution to most things. ]

Maybe there is wisdom in that I can not see yet, time will tell. Which pack do you belong to?
