TEST DRIVE #14
TEST DRIVE MEME #14
▶ 001. ARRIVAL / CAFETERIA. (NEO TOKYO BASE).
It happens in the blink of an eye, a dash of time – you're taken from where you were. What you were doing... it isn't important any more, and slowly, you give up the desire of your normal life. When you awaken, figures are looking down on you from a surgical table.
"Yeah, this one will do. Let's take them to the rest." That's all you see before losing consciousness again, only to wake up in a pod with many others.
"Your questions will be answered soon enough, as I'm sure you will have many," a female, robotic voice says.
Just then, you regain consciousness in a pool of stasis liquid along with many others. You realize you are underground. Your new life is about to begin... whether you like it or not.
Welcome to Neo Tokyo. Pods drain their stasis fluid, which wakes each Outsider and they emerge from their pod in only undergarments. Directed to a locker room in the medical bay, they find a towel to dry off with and a set of gray loungewear to wear as LILITH makes the final decision in assigning the Outsiders to their rightful teams. If a character has any accessibility needs, they will be found here.
It's around this time they will feel a sharp pain at the back of their eyes, almost like there’s a foreign body lodged on the inside of their head. This pain will subside quickly as their body adapts to the changes, but there will always be a sensation of something being not quite right; that their bodies have been changed forever. It might take some getting used to, but over time the sensation will become familiar. In the stasis pods, all Outsiders have been surgically fitted with ocular and brain implants that will enable them to communicate with LILITH and the rest of the crew, as well as providing them the information they require. Almost like a computer screen has been loaded into their brains, they will see a loading screen as the implant completes its download.
A questionnaire will then pop up, waiting for their answer. A voice, robotic and feminine, will also read along in their brain for them.
█ █ █ LOADING COMPLETE … BEGIN ORIENTATION …
Outsiders will also notice an implant in their dominant wrist. This implant has a barcode in it that will enable them to purchase goods from the local stores in Neo Tokyo. They will receive a starting balance of 15,000 KRYPTOS (about USD 100), which is barely enough for a few good meals, groceries, and supplies. They can view their current balance through a hologram window projected by their ocular implant.
In the cafeteria area, food is being served. The kitchen can be seen, and a few robots are busy stirring pots and preparing the dishes. The current offerings are artificial KFC chicken bucket meals… a great tradition still strong even in the year 2279! Does the chicken and mac n' cheese taste fake? That's because it is, but at least it is somewhat good.

Name:Outsiders will receive a quick debrief about their situation: they will be told that the year is 2279, and they have been taken to Neo Tokyo, one of the last bastions of mankind in a world terrorized by various Kaiju and monsters. Only a third of the population remains, and LILITH has gathered talented people from other dimensions here as a last ditch effort to save humanity. Outsiders are free to continue asking LILITH questions through their implant, but there’s no guarantee that they will provide them with a straight answer.

"Greetings, my name is SYNTHIA and I will be taking care of you today. Worry not, my children. You are in safe hands. I have taken care of you all for many years now, and I will continue to do so in the upcoming year."
▶ 002. TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK.
While residents of Neo Tokyo prepare for the New Year, even with the influx of new arrivals, the Outsiders are unable to rest... even with their stockings still not filled. There has been quite a bit of rumbling around Mt. Fuji, thanks to the recent increase in rift activity around the mountain, and LILITH has an interest in hunting down the source of the activity and hopefully put a stop to it, if possible.
All Outsiders will be required to travel to Mt. Fuji, and join their teammates at the base of the mountain; they will travel by a newly installed train that takes Outsiders straight from the base towards Mt. Fuji once again. Each team will be assigned a large cabin, with just enough rooms for the team to room double, or tripled up, but characters will have the freedom of choice of who they room with – and newcomers, LILITH hasn’t forgotten you.
Although their teams have not been assigned yet, newcomers are welcome to join a team on the trip based on… what else, but vibes? Maybe you’re a good-hearted hero (Everlight) or have a lot of unresolved trauma in your life (Revelation.) Maybe you’re selfish and only care about yourself (Brimstone) or maybe you are someone who is encouraging and makes for a great support (Redemption.)
As of now, it doesn’t matter what team you decide to go on until LILITH organizes you based on the information they have gathered about you, so join whomever you want for the trip! This shouldn't last too long... right? Right.
Each cabin will be determined by cardinal direction as follows:

▶ 003. NEW YEAR, NEW YOU.
At the 5th Station of Mt. Fuji, Outsiders will be able to use small teleporters to easily move from one part of the volcano to another (say, the southern part to the northern part) but there will also be a main area of congregation at the 5th Station. There will be an area here to turn in any sort of clues or findings for LILITH to analyze, but this is also a safe haven area where all teams can communicate with one another and also rest.
LILITH understands that it sucks to be stuck on a mission during the New Year, so they will provide several activities in the evening for Outsiders to participate in. For example, a small teleporter has been shared with a local ski resort to provide fast access for Outsiders to unwind from investigating with some free skiing. Bonfires will be lit and accessible each evening, along with little paper slips for Outsiders to write on and cast into the fire going into the New Year. Is there something you want to let go of? A regret you have? A secret you no longer wish to keep? Letting go of old things is a great way to start a new year. However, for whatever reason, Outsiders will be compelled to discuss their slip of paper with somebody near them.
Refreshments and snacks will be served during this time for Outsiders to warm up and take a break; any sort of food, artificial or not, that you would find around a bonfire or for snacks will be served. Enjoy a baked sweet potato, hot cocoa, and grilled and skewered mystery kaiju meat.
Staying by the bonfire in the evenings is one great way to pass the time, but for the early risers, the real spectacle is watching the sun rise from one of the higher landings on the eastern side of the mountain. It’s a New Years tradition to watch the sun rise, and it is spectacular. Maybe this really will be your year, Outsiders! Just remember tp bundle up. It is extremely cold, especially the higher up Outsiders venture.

▶ 004. JÖTNAR SIGHTING.
As Outsiders unravel clues that have emerged from this specific rift that keeps appearing and disappearing, they will find out that this kaiju has a specific origin. And while LILITH team members begin to put the pieces together, the entire mountain will quickly grow dark, as if being covered by a giant shadow. Outsiders will not be able to see anything before them without some form of light, even those who are equipped with night vision and powers adjacent to that. Those who are at the 5th Station at that time will hear a guttural sound, followed by a distinctive roar. It seems a kaiju has appeared from this rift.
Characters who provide light in some way, whether it be from a flame or from a flash light will get glimpse of this creature: several stories high, covered in bulky white fur, bright blue, glowing eyes, almost ape-like in physique with horns. Were there more of them? Or just one? Outsiders may try to attack this creature with limited light sources, but risk hurting each other. Still.. what must you have to do to survive?
Before any major damage is done to this beast (or beasts, it is still unsure), an avalanche quakes in the distance, plowing through and trapping anyone in its path. Where did this avalanche come from? Are you someone who is covered in snow, or did you manage to go to safety? Brave the darkness outside and help your team mates and seek refuge in one of the cabins; tend to any wounds possible, but warming them up will be the best thing to prevent frostbite.

▶ 005. ICE TO MEET YOU.
Darkness continues to ensnare the whole mountain, not just the 5th Station. It’s plenty cold and snowy, but the more that Outsiders stay here, the more the snow begins to pile up and there are several nights where the cabins are snowed in. This has seemingly happened overnight with no signs of weather change or indication that Outsiders could be blizzard in. Better hope you were at the right cabin, but if you happen to get trapped at another team’s cabin (or 5th Station), hopefully you have friends there that can put you up.
The doors and windows are iced over, and opening from the inside will reveal a thick layer of ice that seems to be creeping inward if left open for longer than a few seconds. It’s an aggressive ice, but if Outsiders try to burn or destroy it, they’ll find that it immediately re-freezes, leaving them trapped inside, no matter how hot they burn. This isn't normal ice, it seems. Thankfully, the cabins don’t seem to lose power, but the heat will struggle to keep up with the deep chill, and the fires burning in the fireplaces will be a welcome source of heat for chilly Outsiders.
While Outsiders are iced in, messaging from LILITH comes in that they’re going to be pushing to dig them out, but that the snow and ice are making traveling to Mt. Fuji nearly impossible. There should be plenty of provisions, and LILITH is monitoring the situation by satellite and will start emergency procedures if anything goes wrong, but for now? It’s a good opportunity to work on supporting each other for survival.
Cooking facilities are well-stocked and the power is on, occasionally flickering and going out, but other than eating and gathering by the fire, entertainment is… a little lacking. There aren’t many movies on rotation (In fact, most seem to be either horror or a charming Christmas movie about a kid trapped in their home) so Outsiders will need to come up with their own entertainment while they wait to be rescued.
There are a few mainstays to be found: boardgames, cards, and some small unfinished crafts left by prior guests. Maybe some enterprising Outsiders thought to bring something fun to pass the evenings, or maybe a novel will be welcome fireside reading, for the introverts among you. Otherwise, only one thing tends to make the chill feel more distant… sharing pieces of yourselves. This is no ordinary cold, after all, and given the more supernatural chill to it, is it so surprising that Outsiders will need to fight this with more than just fire and body heat?
The way to combat the cold is sharing, and almost anything works. From food, to stories, emotional intimacy, or even just a story from your own world. It will be apparent, quickly enough, and Outsiders who share will find that the effects last a small while, though longer conversations seem to make it last longer.
After the first encounter with the kaiju, it’s fairly obvious who has snowed the outsiders in, but as the days wear on, Outsiders can only hope that the snow will break, and they can return to their work.
In the meantime, think of this as a very cold vacation.
The next part of this event will go up on January 15th.

▶ 006. AFTERWORD.
Welcome to our 14th TDM! All TDM threads are game canon and characters who don't app will be glitched out of this world. As the TDM will act as the event, existing characters are heavily encouraged to participate. Please use this format for top levels: CHARACTER | CANON | CURRENT / NEW CHARACTER.
There are currently ~20 available player slots. New players are welcome to use this TDM to get samples for APPLICATIONS when they open. At this time, RESERVES are open, and close on the 5th when applications open.
Use the code provided in the ARRIVAL prompt if you'd like to participate in the ice breaker, and place it in your top level along with your other prompts. Anything such as civilian name or username can be marked as UNDECIDED if you're unsure of what you'd like your character to have for now. Though it says 'Orientation', existing characters can still participate in the ice-breaker. Current Outsiders will have their Syndata files accessible for all to see. New characters will not have a Syndata profile but players can write a short blurb about the character for this.
Please note that all tags in this log will count for 2 points each and will count towards January AC.
For INVESTIGATION CLUES, we are leaving this open to players only as these clues will be tied to the continuation of this event on January 15th. Those who are accepted in this round of applicants may search for a clue after they have been accepted and properly arranged onto their team.

EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. ARRIVAL / CAFETERIA. (TOKYO BASE): Newcomers arrive with ocular and brain implants, and are given a breakdown of the premise with an icebreaker orientation to complete. They will arrive in Neo Tokyo.
2. TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAMWORK: Strange rift activity is once again reported at Mt. Fuji, with rifts opening then closing, appearing and disappearing. Teams are sectioned off to investigate specific parts of the mountain with a congregational area at the 5th Station. Ask for a clue under the respectable comment header.
3. NEW YEAR, NEW YOU: Between investigating the area, Outsiders can take a break by mingling at the 5th Station using small teleporters or snowmobiles. A teleporter takes Outsiders to a small resort for free skiing, there is a bonfire for letting things go in the evening, and if you want to bundle up, watching the sunrise at the top of Fuji-san is still a New Year tradition.
4. JOTNAR SIGHTING: The kaiju reveals itself by cloaking Mt. Fuji in darkness, followed by an avalanche attack! Rescue fellow members who are buried in the snow, bring them to any sort of cabin and tend to them.
5. ICE TO MEET YOU: A sudden blizzard, no doubt an attack from the kaiju, fences Outsiders snowed in and stranded. There are things to do to kill time while LILITH does what it can to bring the Outsiders out of the snow, but it's proving to be very difficult with unearthly ice that refreezes as soon as it is melted. This event will continue on January 15th.

Arrival
Sure you can! The kitchen's not the best stocked though - usually people who do around here make sure to buy groceries before doing so.
Though I'd say try the chicken - it's a holiday staple and might actually be good!
no subject
Holiday? What holiday?
no subject
My pops always talked about it when he was a kid so we had it around Christmas or the New Year, so it's nice to see.
I mean, if you try it and don't like it, you can always make something else. People don't always like what's offered but others don't like to cook or are bad at it. *like him*
no subject
jin dangles a chicken wing, nose wrinkled. ]
I think I could serve a better meal than this.
no subject
Do you just like to cook or are you like a professional at it back home? 'Cause if you are, then I can definitely understand why it'd be insulting. My youngest brother would probably have the same reaction, honestly.
no subject
[ not an idle boast, even if he won't say more on the subject. ]
What would you like besides . . . this? Maybe I can make it.
no subject
*he perks up because FOOD!? Food is GREAT!!!!*
Oh man, I'm always down to try anything so if you're going to make something you like, I'd be glad to taste test! I love pizza, sure, but there's all sorts of good things - like pasta or rice dishes. Yum.
no subject
I can do pasta. That's easy enough.

Didja need some help? *pasta was easy sure but he'll always help out!* Or just ta stay outta yer way?
Oh, I'm Raph by the way! Nice ta meetcha!

It's Jin.
And you can decide. It makes no difference to me.
[ with that, he's gonna beeline to the kitchen and get some real meals going smh. what is this fried nonsense. terrible. awful. ]

Pleasure ta meetcha, Jin.
*he's a BIG dude in terms of size, so he fidgets a little and then follows Jin, curious to see what he could come up with* I can at least keep you company!
no subject
Hm.
Grab the flour. We'll need to knead it to make the pasta.
no subject
*he knows where that is! He's just one big smile as he wanders over to the pantry, taking care not to hit or elbow Jin despite the broadness of being a huge turtle dude. It takes him a second or two to locate the bucket of it, checking to make sure, before bringing it out to a countertop and setting the flour bucket down on it*
Here it is.

We're gonna mix it with eggs and salt. Then we'll knead it until it sets. Can you manage that? Or would you prefer to work with vegetables?

▶ 004. JÖTNAR SIGHTING.
[ Ever since he arrived here, Gojo's abilities have been unreliable, but to have his vision blotted out into such severe darkness like this feels like a personal affront. He's furious at this monster for its strange, unnatural shadow, and he's perfectly willing to blame it for all small frustrations and lapses in his own powers. Rising up into the air, he hurls red balls of explosive power at it, though they don't provide as much light as he might hope. At least its glowing blue eyes work as a target, and Gojo has less worry about hitting his allies while he's dozens of feet up in the air.
The rumbling of the avalanche draws his attention, making him pause. He hears the cries of other Outsiders, and yet he remains tempted to pursue his opponent instead. He's always been prone to getting lost in his fights, either with a playful sadism or a cold, savage rage, and he's always been a little too ready to accept collateral damage if he calculates that it's the most efficient result.
Perhaps he hears the voice of someone he cares about, or perhaps those emotional attachments alone are enough to draw him back down. He lands lightly on the snow, keeping his weight above it. If he had his vision working properly, he'd be able to spot victims in the snow without difficulty. As it is, he has to rely on a spark of blue light swirling above his palm.
When he grips a wrist sticking out of the snow and hauls upward on it, dragging someone back into the air, Gojo himself looks barely human. His expression is stony, and his blue eyes glow with a light that's not unlike the blue eyes of the kaiju that they'd all just been fighting. He is not a reassuring rescuer, in his current state, but he certainly is a rescuer. ]
▶ 005. ICE TO MEET YOU.
[ Once the blizzard settles in with a vengeance, Gojo can mostly be found in Brimstone. It's not his assigned cabin, but it's his boyfriend's cabin, and Gojo isn't about to let sleeping assignments get in the way of romance. He occasionally teleports over to Everlight, which was his assigned cabin, which he visited briefly upon arrival on the mountain. There are people he cares about there, and he wants to keep an eye on them. Since he never visited the other two cabins, he has no way to get to them. The teleportation ability gives him a theoretical out of the situation, but each use leaves him strangely drained and dizzy, so he can't do it more than once or twice a day, and he's not willing to leave his loved ones abandoned here on the mountain.
If someone's desperate to get between the Everlight and Brimstone cabins or to 5th Station, Gojo can take them, but with his abilities drained by the strange magic on the mountain, the teleportation is likely to be a miserable trip that will leave characters sick for hours afterward.
Feel free to spot him popping alarmingly into existence up by the cabin rafters, then dropping to the floor with a thud. Other than that, he spends his time sulking by the fire, pacing restlessly through the cabin, or snooping around the kitchen whenever someone starts making food. ]
