TEST DRIVE #13
TEST DRIVE MEME #13
▶ 001. ARRIVAL / CAFETERIA. (NEO TOKYO BASE).
It happens in the blink of an eye, a dash of time – you're taken from where you were. What you were doing... it isn't important any more, and slowly, you give up the desire of your normal life. When you awaken, figures are looking down on you from a surgical table.
"Yeah, this one will do. Let's take them to the rest." That's all you see before losing consciousness again, only to wake up in a pod with many others.
"Your questions will be answered soon enough, as I'm sure you will have many," a female, robotic voice says.
Just then, you regain consciousness in a pool of stasis liquid along with many others. You realize you are underground. Your new life is about to begin... whether you like it or not.
Welcome to Neo Tokyo. Pods drain their stasis fluid, which wakes each Outsider and they emerge from their pod in only undergarments. Directed to a locker room in the medical bay, they find a towel to dry off with and a set of gray loungewear to wear as LILITH makes the final decision in assigning the Outsiders to their rightful teams. If a character has any accessibility needs, they will be found here.
It's around this time they will feel a sharp pain at the back of their eyes, almost like there’s a foreign body lodged on the inside of their head. This pain will subside quickly as their body adapts to the changes, but there will always be a sensation of something being not quite right; that their bodies have been changed forever. It might take some getting used to, but over time the sensation will become familiar. In the stasis pods, all Outsiders have been surgically fitted with ocular and brain implants that will enable them to communicate with LILITH and the rest of the crew, as well as providing them the information they require. Almost like a computer screen has been loaded into their brains, they will see a loading screen as the implant completes its download.
A questionnaire will then pop up, waiting for their answer. A voice, robotic and feminine, will also read along in their brain for them.
█ █ █ LOADING COMPLETE … BEGIN ORIENTATION …
Outsiders will also notice an implant in their dominant wrist. This implant has a barcode in it that will enable them to purchase goods from the local stores in Neo Tokyo. They will receive a starting balance of 15,000 KRYPTOS (about USD 100), which is barely enough for a few good meals, groceries, and supplies. They can view their current balance through a hologram window projected by their ocular implant.
In the cafeteria area, food is being served. The kitchen can be seen, and a few robots are busy stirring pots and preparing the dishes. The current offerings are Fish and chips, and mushy peas. Some very lucky outsiders might get there early enough to see another curious treat; Smack Barm Pey Wets, supplies are limited! Of course, if it doesn't appeal, Outsiders will also be encouraged to make their own food. Finding your own ingredients might be trickier, however, especially with the dubious nature of the meats.

Name:Outsiders will receive a quick debrief about their situation: they will be told that the year is 2279, and they have been taken to Neo Tokyo, one of the last bastions of mankind in a world terrorized by various Kaiju and monsters. Only a third of the population remains, and LILITH has gathered talented people from other dimensions here as a last ditch effort to save humanity. Outsiders are free to continue asking LILITH questions through their implant, but there’s no guarantee that they will provide them with a straight answer.

"Greetings, my name is SYNTHIA and I will be taking care of you today. Worry not, my children. You are in safe hands."
▶ 002. ANARCHY IN THE UK
For newly arrived Outsiders and veterans, they will be given a choice. They can choose to do some work in Britain or they can take care of things in Neo Tokyo. For those who decide to help wrap things up in England, they will still be based in Windsor Castle. Eadmund and Gwenllian are nowhere to be found. After recent events, they have both decided to spend some time away and discuss matters privately. In a show of good faith, both will allow LILITH to track their whereabouts, but they ask to be left alone for the time being. LILITH will take over command of the castle and begin to sort things out in the meantime. Since LILITH is helping put things to rights, the teleporter between Neo-Tokyo and Windsor Castle is operating 24/7, allowing outsiders both new and old to travel freely! (However, a little nausea is to be expected from frequent or first-time use.)
One of the matters at hand is the return of the human population. While many of the animals have been turned back into people, there are still some complications. Some of the people have animal features like animal ears, tails, paws, and wings. Others are still in animal form but possess human speech. Outsiders will be tasked with helping to administer LILITH's new rift corruption treatment to the civilians. Outsiders might encounter some civilians who are happy as they are, though. Being a human is hard! Maybe they want to be corgis or find their fox ears cute.
However, among those who have been changed back at the castle, some of them will approach the Outsiders and ask for help. Some of their family and friends are not accounted for and they are worried their loved ones might be out in the surrounding forest and ruins. There's a real concern they might not have changed back and might be out among the wildlife. They beg the Outsiders to help return their loved ones.
Outsiders will receive the best descriptions the locals can possibly give. For example, Outsiders are told to look out for a corgi with one lopsided ear, a fox with orange-ish fur and a very fluffy tail, a badger smaller than normal, a brown stoat, and other animals that... sound like normal animals. They'll also be given names to call out for like, Polly, Digory, Molly, and more. If they're extra "lucky" they might even provide amateur drawings to help them.
Among those asking for help is a certain distressed corgi and her regal daughter who will explain one of the lost corgis is the missing crown prince and other members of the royal family. If they can help reunite their family, they promise to reward the Outsiders handsomely.

▶ 003. KAIJU TRIAL
With their guardian kaiju weak and in recovery, the local kaiju are free to advance. A local variant of the yama-kujira can be found stomping across the forests and charging randomly from the brush. If you can sneak up on one and keep watch, however, you might be able to track some of them into the forest where they dig up the bases of trees for rare and expensive mushrooms that can be sold for a high price to chefs and foodies.
Outsiders who choose to venture into the London ruins to find lost animal-civilians will find fewer threats. They may encounter feral dogs, some giant rat kaiju, and aggravating pigeon kaiju but it's nothing most Outsiders can't handle. However, if they happen upon any bodies of water, they might run into a particularly beautiful sight. Swimming on the water's surface is a beautiful white swan kaiju. However, don't let your guards down. As soon as the swans make eye contact with Outsiders, they immediately take flight and charge at them.
While it seems that the Swavyrn poses a low risk to the Outsiders, they are a greater risk to most animals which will impede anyone trying to find lost animal-civilians. Outsiders are encouraged to recover as many enchanted civilians that might wander into their territory. They are also told to avoid bodies of water like rivers, ponds, streams, and fountains unless they want to get into territorial disputes. Luckily, most of these areas seem to be in abandoned parks, gardens, and specific parts of the city. They can also be found in the wild forests and fields beyond the city and Castle Windsor.
Outsiders do not need to defeat the Swavyrn they encounter but the feathers are known to be particularly beautiful and are popular collector and fashion items. Apparently some of them can even be used to make special collector blades. While each feather is not very expensive, collecting and selling enough of them could earn a sizable profit on local markets and back home. The Swavyrn is also supposed to be very delicious when treated properly so the corpses can also be sold.
Upon returning to Windsor Castle, there will be much discussion about whether or not the Swavyrn counts as a swan or not and if the Outsiders should be punished for harming them

▶ 004. CULTURE SHOCK
For those who decide to return to Neo Tokyo, they might arrive just in time to catch various small festivals occurring around the city. To celebrate Culture Day, various clubs and societies have organized events to introduce their talents to outsiders. Everyone in Neo Tokyo is welcome to attend these events and if they enjoy them, they're also welcome to join the clubs and start a new hobby!
In the local parks and gardens, Outsiders can experience tea ceremony and flower arrangement demos. Everyone is welcome to come in and enjoy tea with traditional sweets. For those who are especially curious, they can also learn how to prepare the tea. Outsiders who drink the tea will find they feel very relaxed and any worries or concerns they might have seem to fade away.
They can also learn how to arrange flowers into aesthetic displays to take back home. Many of the flowers are artificial and designed to come in both natural and unnatural colors. Their scents are stronger or even scentless depending on your preferences. They can even modify the flowers to look like flora from other countries. With a little bit of creativity you could probably adapt some of the flowers to look like flowers from other worlds, too!
For those who want something more exciting, they can find martial arts exhibitions around the city. These exhibitions can be found at community centers, in front of train stations, and outside department stores. Here, Outsiders can enjoy displays for kendo, naginata, archery, karate, and more. Everyone will be assigned a temporary style upgrade so they can don the appropriate uniform.
If you are interested in learning the way of the sword, you will be given a traditional wooden sword. By gripping the handle, it will read your biometrics and combine virtual tech to create the perfect weight and balance giving you the perfect practice katana. To start, everyone will get to practice cutting bamboo. Club members will also put on exhibition matches. If you can convince them, you might even get to join in on the competition and get to spar with some of the members or each other.
There are also similar matches for archery, naginata, karate, and other martial arts around the city. For archery, the challenge is trying to shoot different targets (stationery and moving) and for karate, challengers have to try to break stacks of tiles. For all martial art exhibitions, if you are able to complete the challenges, you will get to keep your uniform upgrade as a prize.

▶ 005. LIKE...Y'KNOW, NYAH
Word spreads fast in a hyper-modern world, and word of what happened to some of the people in England has made its way back to Japan, and there will always be scientists who are willing to push the envelope when it comes to scientific discovery. Corporations will always use alternative means to fund risky discoveries, and money flows quickly, and discoveries are even quicker to be made. It isn’t like some geneticists and surgeons weren’t already working on such things, but with the extra cash and the right supplies, and word that it’s possible...it all seems to come together easily.
The black markets see it first, as they always do. Individuals with cat ears and tails are the easy ones to spot, but there are others too. A man with a neck that can spin all the way around and eyes that can see far into the distance; a mousey individual with a nose that twitches more than a few times, and a woman with a pair of large canine ears on her head that stick straight up. People who are paying premiums to be the first ones to sport fetching tails, ears, claws and feathers. Sure, one could augment themselves with machinery, but isn’t true wetwork even more enticing?
All these spliced individuals certainly look cool, but with it comes some unintended consequences. The people splicing are starting to show… the effects of their DNA, the longer they have it. For the first few days, it looks quite fetching, of course, but those cat ears and tail are great, until you start tracking every stray bit of movement, before you lunge for your next meal that happens to be the child running in the street. Individuals with squirrel DNA might start compulsively stealing food and burying it, or people with crepuscular hunter skills start stalking people in the dawn and evenings, and there are even whispers of people caught indulging in heat cycles, aggressively attacking in public and territorial disputes are on the rise with the new splicing trend.
LILITH agents who frequent the black market, or who have heard word from some of the curious LILITH scientists, are tasked with seeking out these individuals, as well as the surgeons and doctors who completed this surgery. Stopping the troublesome newly-spliced individuals is only the first step, and there are more and more every day, with any number of individual eccentricities. For example, Outsiders can find ram-spliced individuals fighting in a headlock over the last labrobro at the store; deer-spliced about to leap into traffic; or any number of others throughout the city. It’s spreading beyond the black markets, and it’s starting to cause problems throughout Neo-Tokyo.
Just as important as stopping the spliced individuals, the doctors themselves need to be stopped, but finding them will be difficult, as they tend to perform back-alley surgeries and work through proxies on the black market. Outsiders will need to find a way to convince them to let them get close, either by posing as prospective patients, bribery, coercion, or threats. Clever Outsiders might be able to locate the surgeons, but the directive is clear: LILITH wants them brought in for questioning.

▶ 006. AFTERWORD.
Welcome to our 13th TDM! All TDM threads are game canon and characters who don't app will be glitched out of this world. As the TDM will act as the event, existing characters are heavily encouraged to participate. Please use this format for top levels: CHARACTER | CANON | CURRENT / NEW CHARACTER.
There are currently ~16 available player slots. New players are welcome to use this TDM to get samples for APPLICATIONS when they open.
Use the code provided in the ARRIVAL prompt if you'd like to participate in the ice breaker, and place it in your top level along with your other prompts. Anything such as civilian name or username can be marked as UNDECIDED if you're unsure of what you'd like your character to have for now. Though it says 'Orientation', existing characters can still participate in the ice-breaker. Current Outsiders will have their Syndata files accessible for all to see. New characters will not have a Syndata profile but players can write a short blurb about the character for this.
Please note that all tags in this log will count for 2 points each and will count towards November AC.
