I'm aware, but that just isn't the case for us. I think Power was his best friend, and I don't know how many other people he's met.

It's been many months since Aki died, since he was ripped away in the cruellest way - the Future had shown him that, so he knew, before Denji dropped the bombshell on him - and in that time Denji has grown up a lot. He cooks, he cleans, he finds what happiness he can, he pushes forward, but he hurts, too. There's some pain in there that Aki can't understand or touch, and it makes him feel a little guilty, in a way he can't explain.
He wants to take care of Denji - he wants to be there for him, to stroke his hair when he cries and sit beside him when he's laughing. He wants to be the one that Denji can rely on, but right now Denji just wants to protect him, instead. Aki wants to keep being the person that Denji turns to for help, but that's not his role any more. It feels a little pathetic, to think that he's lost that part of his life because of his own demise, but there's nothing he can do about it other than keep being at his friend's side.
If he can give Denji even a fraction of the happiness that Denji had given him...
