Most people consider "night" to be whatever time they're sleeping, or when it's dark out. Which includes the early morning hours. So it's still "middle of the night" even if it's not technically night.

And wouldn't you be a little annoyed if someone woke you up while you were sleeping just to say hi? Couldn't you check in with them first thing in the morning or something?
