This is the question of sacrificing the one for the many, at its heart. Do you let one person die if it means many are saved? Or do you allow inaction to take its course. Many people can die if you do nothing, but if you condemn one person to death, you can save many.
I propose that we save the many, we explain what it is that does this, and move from there. The one person will still die in the end, but the eternal churn of... whatever circumstance that asks for such sacrifice can be halted or altered before the next gathering is upon the tracks.
